    Viet Nam made progress in dealing with toxic chemicals

    The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organize a 4-day Training Workshop on “Stockholm Convention Implementation – International Practices” to allow Vietnamese participants to learn from and share experiences with international experts regarding Stockholm Convention implementation, environmental permits, emergency response, and new technologies for environmentally management, treatment and disposal of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and to discuss the draft of the National Implementation Plan (NIP) for Stockholm Convention Implementation in Viet Nam.

    UNDP and Vietnamese academy of social sciences launch new initiative to review reform

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) signed today the “Assistance to the 20 Year Review of Doi Moi in Viet Nam” project. The new project will support the Academy with new research and high-level policy discussions on the reform process known as doi moi or ‘renovation’ in Viet Nam.

    Vietnamese inventors to receive WIPO Awards

    On the occasion of the Viet Nam Scientific and Technological Awards ceremony, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) recognizes and honors the scientific excellence and technological creativity of Vietnamese inventors and enterprises. WIPO is represented by the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UN Development Programme Resident Representative Jordan Ryan, who will present the awards at the award ceremony to be televised from Ba Dinh Hall in Ha Noi this evening.

    Mekong Delta Region Debates New Poverty Reduction Programme

    The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) is consulting with officials and representatives from the poorest areas in the Mekong delta region on the design of the new National Targeted Programme for Poverty Reduction for the 2006-2010 period. The consultation, opened in An Giang province on 17 March 2005, is the third one in a series of consultations on the draft document of the Programme.

    Coca-Cola joins UNDP to provide clean water for communities

    The Coca-Cola Company today joined the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in an effort to provide “Clean Water for Communities in Viet Nam”. The project will help improve the access to clean water of selected rural communes in Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Tay, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang and Tra Vinh provinces. Coca-Cola will provide funds to UNDP on a cost-sharing basis towards implementation of the project, which will promote community action for promotion and access to clean water through local self-help groups.
