Results of a survey by VietNamNet and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), released today, show that in order to increase the satisfaction with public administrative procedures three areas in particular need to be improved. These are: (i) completing procedures within the stated deadline; (ii) improving the competence and attitude of civil servants; and (iii) providing clear information about the procedures.

A 2-day conference "12th National Assembly (NA): Essential Reforms for Development,” began in Hoi An city today. UNDP Chief hails Viet Nam’s progress on the millennium goals; says environmental issues could be addressed through cleaner energy use
On the second day of her official visit to Viet Nam, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark visited Bat Trang village, an ancient center for ceramics, to encourage the use of cleaner energy in their kilns. UNDP supports a project which provides short term loans to business owners to switch from coal fired kilns to cleaner gas, significantly reducing CO2 emission and saving energy.

Vietnamese women are an increasingly active role in socio– economic development. They make up around 50% of labour market, of which nearly half are skilled workers in various sectors. Viet Nam is already a medium 'Human Development Index’ (HDI) country according to the UNDP’s global system of indicators, and in terms of gender empowerment is ranked higher than some high HDI countries.

First of a kind survey asks Vietnamese citizens about their experiences with public administrative procedures
VietNamNet and UNDP Viet Nam are today launching the first-ever online public poll on Vietnamese citizens’ views and experiences of public administrative procedures (www.hienkecchc.vn). The survey, which runs for three months, aims to support the ongoing Government efforts to enhance public administration reform and simplification of administrative procedures.

The contest, titled Picture This: We Can End Poverty, seeks to show the inspirational work that is being done in many countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), eight goals agreed on by world leaders to halve extreme poverty by 2015.
