Launching ceremony of the 1st Press Award for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control 2019

Ha Noi, October 12, 2019 - The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control cooperated with the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam Journalists Association and the United Nations Development Program to hold the Launching Ceremony of the first national press award on natural disaster prevention and control in 2019 with the topic "Mitigation of losses due to natural disasters - Proactive adaptation to climate change starting in the community".

The National Press Award for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control was organized for the first time in 2019 with the consent of Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung - Head of the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control. The Award a practical and meaningful activity showing the important role of information and communication, one of the effective solutions to raising the awareness of all levels of government and people contributing to disaster risk reduction.

The objective of the National Press Award on Disaster Prevention is to recognize and commend collectives and individuals that have made practical contributions to the propaganda and information on disaster prevention and control. In addition, the Award also contributes to raising the awareness and responsibility of organizations and individuals in finding out, judging and reflecting the actual situation, lessons learned, approaches and solutions to natural disaster prevention; Renewing contents, modes of information and communication on natural disaster prevention and control; Strengthening the coordination between the disaster prevention agencies with the mass media, organizations and individuals.

There are 05 types of newspapers considered for the award: Print Newspaper, Electronic Newspaper, Radio, Television and Press Photo; All Vietnamese citizens, including professional and non-professional journalists whose press works conform to the criteria of the Prize, are entitled to submit their entries.

Time for submissions is from the launching date to the end of March 31, 2020. The announcement and awarding ceremony will be held in May 2020 during National Disaster Prevention Week. Entries are works written in Vietnamese published on mass media from January 1, 2019 to the end of March 31, 2020.

Prizes for each type include 01 First Prize (prize value of 40 million VND), 01 Second Prize (20 million VND), 02 Third Prizes (10 million VND), 03 Consolation Prizes (5 million VND) and 01 Collective Prize (10 million VND) for the media having the most entries. There are also a number of additional prizes (5 million): Prize for the most powerful impact story, the most impressive image, Companion prize, etc.

Form of reward: Logo of the Award, the Organizing Board's Certification and Certificate of Merit of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - Standing Deputy Chairman of the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control for the first, second and third prizes.
