Ha Noi, 8 May 2022 – The Government of Viet Nam, Norway and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will organize the International Conference on Sustainable Ocean Economy and Climate Change Adaptation “Solutions for a climate resilient Blue Economy”.

The two-day conference will bring together distinguished leaders from coastal states, Small Island Developing States, members of the Vulnerable Country Forum (CVF/V20) and developed countries, as well as representatives of international organisations and finance institutions, experts from international and national research institutions, think tanks and global centres of excellence, and civil society and non-governmental organisations on 12 and 13 May 2022 – in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, and online.

More than 400 domestic and international delegates will discuss ways to promote sustainable use of ocean resources and key challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis, climate change, and environmental pollution. Participants will identify opportunities to accelerate practical actions that protect ocean ecosystems for economic development and enhance the resilience of vulnerable countries.

The conference will focus on the close relationship between ocean economy and climate change adaptation, and will host the launch of UNDP and the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands’ “Blue Economy in Viet Nam” study, which assesses the contribution of marine sectors to Viet Nam's sustainable development.

Relevant and timely topics such as maintaining economic growth while enhancing resilience to climate change, circular economies and women’s empowerment in adaptation will also be addressed.
